Every IAMBIC pair begins with a 3D scan that maps over twenty biometric points per foot. Our Fit Engine turns this data into a millimeter-accurate digital last, then European artisans craft each pair from full-grain Italian leather for balance, comfort, and all-day performance.

Road Test: MODEL T
This feature is part of the Road Test series, where leaders put the MODEL T to the test in real motion. This is Part 1, before Ray’s journey through Italy begins.
Meet Ray Chang
Ray Chang is a tech executive turned motorsport curator and the founder of Motorsport Lab , a driving experience company that brings people into the world of high-performance cars. He owns one of the largest private fleets in existence, including Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Aston Martins, Pagani, and McLaren models, and has trained more than 500,000 drivers. His work moves between track and road, where mechanical mastery, precision travel, and human connection meet.
We spoke with Ray about his path into professional motorsport culture, his experience with the IAMBIC MODEL T, and how precision fit mirrors the same awareness and balance he teaches behind the wheel.

Q&A with Ray Chang
What does a day in your world at Motorsport Lab look like as you prepare for the upcoming Italy tour?
Every day is different. I’m either maintaining the fleet, managing instructors, or finalizing logistics for our next European drive. The fleet includes Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Aston Martins, and other exotics. We over-invest in the cars so guests never miss an event. If one goes down, another is ready. The same philosophy applies to my team. I look for people who are already driven. I teach them hospitality and safety so they can protect both the customer and the car. When we’re on the road, comfort matters. Some staff live in their trucks for weeks, so I let them choose their setup, music, and even the truck color. Details matter. This work is about precision and care.
You’ve trained more than half a million drivers. What keeps people coming back for these experiences?
Everyone thinks they’re a great driver until the first corner. Straight lines are easy. The corner is where the time is made. That’s what people come to learn. We keep it safe but push them slightly out of their comfort zone. I’ll ask them to do things the car can handle that they don’t think it can, and that changes everything. Once they see what’s possible, they want to come back and go deeper. The same energy carries into our international tours. In Italy or Germany, I guide people through more than driving. It’s the food, the culture, and the rhythm of travel. By day two, they’re relaxed, laughing, and fully immersed.
You started your career in tech at IBM and helped build the first embedded mobile broadband ThinkPad. How has that engineering background shaped the way you approach motorsport today?
At IBM, we were building the first always-connected laptop before that was common. It taught me to think through systems and how every variable interacts with the next. Racing works the same way. Small tolerances create big outcomes. One millimeter or one degree can change everything. Whether I’m tuning a car or designing a multi-day driving experience, precision and process drive the result.
As someone who collects one-of-one supercars, what was it like to receive a one-of-one pair of IAMBIC shoes crafted for your exact profile?
It felt special. I’m a sneakerhead and I notice details. When I opened the MODEL T box, each shoe was standing upright instead of lying flat. That detail protects the toe box from creasing. The leather felt soft, the sole solid and substantial. It felt like a one-of-one piece made for how I move, just like my cars are tuned for how I drive.
How has this personalized craftsmanship influenced how you think about luxury and fit?
Most “luxury” shoes are off the shelf. You walk in, pick a size, and go. This was different. I scanned my feet, answered questions about arch, cushioning, and activity, and the pair arrived perfectly fitted. It made me realize that true luxury is about thoughtfulness. It’s about something made for you, not for everyone.
From an engineering standpoint, what caught your attention about IAMBIC’s use of smartphone 3D scans and AI for precision fit?
The technology impressed me. To think you can photograph your feet and have an algorithm analyze millimeters of difference to build something custom is incredible. It reminded me of how we use sensors and data in motorsport. IAMBIC applies that same precision engineering to the human body, turning data into performance you can wear.
IAMBIC’s Sole Print™ system learns from how you move over time. What excites you most about that capability?
I look at it as health technology for my feet. I’m active with gym, basketball, and chiropractic care. If a shoe can show how my gait changes or if one side is compensating, that’s powerful data. It’s like tracking tire wear or telemetry in a car. The sooner you see the change, the faster you can adjust.
How do the MODEL T shoes fit into your travel kit as you get ready for Italy?
They’ll be my go-to pair. I travel light, so they’re the only sneakers I’m packing. They look sharp for meetings and still perform for long walks, factory floors, and museum tours. I call them my Swiss-army shoe, versatile, durable, and clean enough to wear anywhere. In the South, people used to say your shoes show your success. I don’t wear watches, so my shoes are my statement piece.
As you head to Motor Valley for the next series of factory visits and street drives, how will you be putting your IAMBIC pairs to the test?
This trip includes the ACI vintage racing event at Misano, tours of the Enzo Ferrari and Ferrari Museums, lunch at Cavallino, and drives around the Maranello factory. We’ll also visit Lamborghini, Pagani, and the Motor Valley Accelerator to meet new mobility startups. I’ll be walking, driving, and meeting people nonstop. The MODEL T will be on my feet from airport to dinner, combining comfort and performance in one system built for endurance.

The most interesting thing about them being crafted just for me is how well they fit. And I hadnever even noticed that my shoes didn't fit right. My other shoes don't hurt me - they just slosharound. With these, the heels actually stay on the whole time and it fits snugly yet stillcomfortably. And I'd never experienced that before. They just stay comfortable all day.
As a runner, as an athlete, just knowing that I'm doing a good service to my body is incredible. It’s the reason that I love my IAMBIC shoes. It's that precision that makes me feel safe to walkdown the street, get on the subway, do my commute, bring my kids to school, and not feelconcerned that I'm doing it in a shoe that doesn't fit right or that doesn't feel good.
The thing that I was surprised by the most with the precision fit is that any pressure points thatI had been feeling with the shoes that I previously came in wearing were completely gone. I waswearing a shoe that wasn't too tight. It wasn't too loose. The sole fit just right. Total comfort. That's the best way to put it.
So I suffer from chronic foot pain and I believe that a lot of that has to do with wearing shoesthat actually don't fit. Whenever I wear my IAMBICs, I've noticed that I have felt less pain, which is really incredible. And they're just so comfortable. I'm not worried about the back of my heel popping out or my ankles not having enough support. Also, they're just so stylish andevery timeI wear them out in the street, I always get compliments, which never happens to me.
A shoe that may feel comfortable for a half hour walk is not a shoe that always feels comfortablefor a three and a half hour walk. So what I like about IAMBIC is, even though the snug fit isthere and it feels comfortable, it also feels substantial enough that I can walk a lot withoutgetting any discomfort. That's just something that's especially important to me and I think theshoe has really delivered that.
The first moment that I tried on my IAMBIC shoes, I noticed a difference. I have small feet. So whenever I try on shoes, I usually expect them to not fit. If they do fit, there's usually some sort of discomfort, whether that's in the toe box or too much space or at the heel. So knowing that this shoe was tailored to my foot was really meaningful. It's rare that you find a shoe like IAMBIC that truly is comfortable, but also hits the markers of style versatility.
I think we're all placed on this earth as unique individuals. None of us are really off the rack in terms of sizing. So for me to have that experience of having something made specifically for me that fit perfectly was something that was a little bit mind blowing. And once I got the shoes, I tried them on, they looked great, they felt great. And honestly, they fit like a glove.
